Gene was born and raised in Iowa and resides in a suburb of Des Moines with his wife (Laurie), son (Grant) and daughter (Kenzie, 18q-). Upon Gene and Laurie’s first meeting they discovered an interesting fact that they share the same exact birthday (he would like to point out that Laurie is 2 hours older). After Gene realized that this is a date that he didn’t have to work to remember, they decided to get married a year later.
During the summer of 2006 Gene and Laurie welcomed their 2nd child Kenzie and had a few scares and after genetic testing found out that she has 18q-. With Dr’s not able to provide much information it left Gene and Laurie with many questions, concerns and fear of the unknown. Fortunately with ease of access to information they were able to quickly discover the Chromosome 18 R&R Society which has provided answers to many of their questions as well as countless resources, information and last but not least an extended family.
Looking for a way to give back paths and opportunity aligned and Gene joined Chromosome 18 as Director of Data. With almost 20 years in the technology industry he brings a passion for people, process and technology.
While this is an opportunity to help out one can never do enough for all of the great things that the C18 organization has done and accomplished (per Gene’s perspective).
