Hi! My name is Maria Gonzalez, and I am interning at Chromosome 18 as a graphics/video production assistant. I am majoring in Microbiology and Immunology on a pre-medical track at UTSA. I was motivated to intern at C18 because I wanted to make a difference in the San Antonio community, and I wanted to contribute to their mission.
Interning at Chromosome 18 has been an amazing experience. I have been assisting in graphics production for two months so far. Working with the C18 team has been refreshing and inspiring in so many ways.
My favorite part about this experience is seeing all the joy and inclusivity this organization provides for families. Meeting the families supported by this non-profit encourages me to educate and advocate for our cause.
Prior to my internship, I did not fully comprehend the importance of awareness, but while interning at C18, I’ve learned the value of acceptance, unity, and advocacy/awareness. In the future, I hope to continue meeting our families and to take part in events such as the Annual Decoded Family Conference this summer.
