Bea Powell, mom to Daniel, 18q- and our fabulous South Central Coordinator exudes joy, kindness, compassion, and love for her family and the Registry during her video interview. She shares advice for new families, her experiences with Daniel’s doctors, finding the Registry, attending conference, how special our chromosome 18 kids are, and so much more!
Here are a few words Bea had to share about attending conference – “I had found my tribe! Moms who were just like me who had children of similar ages, similar diagnoses, and abilities. We just gravitated to each other. We found each other through the syndrome breakout groups. The most wonderful thing is feeling that immediate connection. They’re still my friends. We still get together at least once a year.”
If you’re on the fence about going to conference, here’s your sign.
Bea also shares her advice for new families…just breathe. “Its going to have its ups and downs…In the end it is so worth it! You never know what your child is going to be able to accomplish…Daniel graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Social Work. He drives… You don’t know how your efforts are going to payoff in the end, but its so worth it!”
