Catherine is originally from Bastrop, but spent most of her younger years in College Station, Texas. During high school, she also spent some time in Bayfield, Wisconsin, which she would describe as “heaven on earth.”
In 2019, Catherine was awarded a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology with a minor in Philosophy from Texas A&M University. This combination led to an interest in medical ethics, specifically how culture influences individual perspectives of medical science & human health. She attended graduate school at Boston University School of Medicine, where she received a Master of Science in Medical Anthropology & Cross-Cultural Practice in 2021. During this time, Catherine developed, conducted and published qualitative research on the use of “empathy” in representative decision-making, and how this “ethical pluralism” can be taught within regulatory or authoritative groups that makes decisions for individuals (McCarthy, C. 2021. Enculturating Empathy: The Ethical Representation of Institutional Review Boards. Boston University).
Catherine also has experience in marketing & communications, graphic design, and website development and management. Previously, she worked as an IRB Coordinator in Pediatric Research at the University of Colorado Denver, Anschutz Medical Campus. In her free time, she loves to spend time in nature and exploring new places, like San Antonio.
One thing you should know about Catherine is that she loves all animals, but currently has her hands full with two crazy cats named Sesame and Little Foot. Last but not least, Catherine enjoys making art and specifically, watercolor or gouache painting.
