Nichole Charles

18q- Coordinator

I joined the Chromosome 18 Registry and Research Society in 2008, shortly after the birth of my son, Graydon, who was diagnosed with 18q- soon after birth. I live in Westminster, MD, with my husband, Bob, son, Graydon, and his younger sister, Josephine. I currently serve as the volunteer 18q- Syndrome Coordinator and have also held roles as Director of Operations and Director of Social Media.

Professionally, I’m a Travel Advisor and own my own travel planning company, Hopeless Nomadic Travel. While I love planning vacations for all types of families, my passion lies in helping those who have family members with special needs. I’m certified by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES) as a Certified Autism Travel Professional.

Graydon is now in high school and truly enjoys going to school. He’s very social, and his teachers adore him. He still faces challenges, but he’s the happiest kid I know—and that’s what matters most to me. It’s been such a joy watching him and Josie grow up together.

In recent years, Graydon has faced some major medical challenges but has come through them all with his signature smile. We continue to do everything we can to keep him happy, healthy, and living his best life.

The Chromosome 18 Registry & Research Society has been an integral part of our lives since 2008. The relationships we’ve formed through the Registry are like no other—we truly are family. We comfort and support each other in ways that only those who share this journey can.
