Agemo 18 Onlus, Chromosome 18 in Italy is co-hosting the conference with us.  Drs. Cody and Hale from the Chromosome 18 Research Center, University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio will be there to present the most up-to-date research.  We are working on the program and aim to bring speakers and presentations from around Europe to join.

We are trying to assess how many families will be interested in this presentation and training so that we can finalize arrangements to bring Ms. Gurney to Rome.  Please email at bonnie18qmum@btinternet.com so that we can plan the sessions to make the most of your time with her.  It promises to be a very exciting workshop!

The Siblings Program will be under the care of Sarah Hunt, who ran it for us in Manchester.  Sarah has been trained as a Sibshops facilitator, and will be working with other adult siblings to organize a full program for siblings from 8 years old.

Music therapy is also planned as it was such a success in Manchester.  Details will come out over the next few weeks as we get our sessions in place for you.

Self Advocates and Siblings Panels (not together in the same room at the same time) where some of our affected  adults share what it was like growing up, and the adult siblings answer questions about what it is like to grow up with a family member affected by Chromosome 18 disorders.

Prof. Richard Davidson, Billy’s dad is working in Scotland to gather information on research currently going on around Europe into Chromosome 18 disorders, and will give a presentation at the conference in Rome.

JUST ADDED!

Janet Gurney of Us in a Bus will join us to host a presentation and workshop sessions for our conference families.

Janet’s presentation and workshop on Intensive Interaction will be invaluable for those families whose children and affected adults have severe difficulties.  Your can find out more about her presentation HERE!

Intensive Interaction is a well established and proven approach to working with people who find communication, or socialization, challenging.  This includes those who have learning disabilities, profound and complex needs, and/or autism.  It is one of the main tools we use to support people in having a sense of themselves and explore their influence in their own world.  We work in a relaxed but focused way that is guided by our knowledge of how communication develops in young children.

We aim to make our conference as inclusive as possible for families affected by Chromosome 18 disorders, so we are excited to bring Janet to Rome for you!  Translation services will be available if needed.

In order to make the most of this opportunity, we need to know how many families will be able to attend, and which languages will need translation services.

Her presentation will begin at 10am on Friday morning, so plan travel accordingly!
