Leah was born and raised in Butte, Montana; home to the notorious and patriotic daredevil, Evel Knievel. Here in this colorful mining town, she met her husband, Craig who was beginning his journey in the military. Traveling through the United States and Europe over the past 22 years with their two children, Gunnar and Ella has been an extraordinary experience. However, moving 11 times in 22 years, Leah is ecstatic to finally establish roots here in San Antonio as Craig prepares to retire from the US Army – no more living out of boxes!
Leah’s worked in the profit and nonprofit sector for over 15 years and has a passion for working with children with disabilities, which started when she was quite young. Her childhood friend and neighbor, a young boy with Down syndrome, would play games with her, usually Pac-Man for Atari. After his passing, Leah joined his family’s memorial organization, SPARCs (Special People Are Really Cool), one of the first organizations in Montana to foster and promote relationships between children with and without disabilities. Later, she cared for a teen with cerebral palsy while in college and was a respite care provider, caring for a non-verbal autistic boy in Germany.
She’s been an avid volunteer, earning the Order of Saint Joan D’Arc, President’s Volunteer Service Award & Good Samaritan Award for her service with the Red Cross, United Service Organization, Family Readiness Groups, Colorado Springs Police Department, Department of Defense Education Activity, and Army Community Services.
Leah has held the positions of President, Parliamentarian, Treasurer, and Fundraising chair with the School Accountability Committee, European Joint Community and Spouses Club and European Forces Swim League.
She’s earned a BS in Marketing from University of Maryland and a MBA from University of Phoenix.
When not working, Leah enjoys collecting vintage jewelry and tries to wear one piece every day. Currently, she is scouting for a vintage starfish brooch.
The entire Gransbery family is honored to be a part of The Chromosome 18 family and is looking forward to working with all of you.
